In contrast, cities and countries are now banning Styrofoam and Polystyrene coated tableware which has been the standard for packaging in the food industry for several years.  Research shows that Styrofoam, which can take thousands of years to degrade, becomes a permanent part of our environment.  It also poses health risks since it is made from petroleum based materials and chemicals.
