Woodland, CA - June 30, 2009 - PrimeWare has recently passed all BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute) tests and become officially BPI Certified.  What does a BPI certification mean? BPI is an association made up of various stakeholders from the government, industry, and academia that advocates for the use, and proper disposal of biodegradable paper and plastic products. A certification from BPI means that a company’s products are biodegradable and compostable and meet BPI requirements based on eight years of research and testing.
PrimeWare is made from bagasse (a byproduct of the sugarcane refining process) which is biodegradable and compostable. These facts make it a perfect new addition to the BPI’s certification list.

PrimeWare owner Kurt Koch said this about the certification: “We are pleased that PrimeWare products now carry the BPI logo.  This certification is only given to products that pass a rigorous set of tests and scientific review.  The process ensures that only products that meet the highest standards for biodegradability and compostability are certified.  Additionally, the BPI certification ensures that certified products are produced from sustainable resources.  Someday, the BPI standards may well be the standard by which all food service packaging products are judged.”

PrimeWare’s full line of hinged-lid containers, plates, bowls, platters, and trays all meet BPI requirements.
